Inspired in equal parts by traditional East Coast work-boats and modern high-performance sailing dinghies, Raedwald is designed to be the ultimate do-it-all boat.
With all the head-turning charm and elegance of a "real classic" combined with planing performance and all the benefits of modern materials; this boat is low maintenance, lightweight, easy to sail and extremely versatile.
The spacious, ergonomic cockpit is ideally suited to family cruising, is designed specifically with dinghy camping in mind, and is comfortable for long days afloat .
Safety and seaworthiness are at the core of the double-skin design; a naturally stable hull form with a high bow and generous freeboard. She has lots of buoyancy in all the right places, she is self-draining, bailing herself quickly in the unlikely event of capsizing or swamping the boat.
She is designed with two mast steps, accommodating five rig configurations, four of which use the same mast and mainsail. These range from a single-sail balanced lug rig (ideal for singlehanding or cruising with kids) to a high-performance gaff rig with a trapeze, furling headsail, asymmetric spinnaker and topsail (over 500 sq.ft of downwind sail area!) to challenge the pace of any modern racing dinghy
Lightweight carbon fibre spars and Dacron sails, keep the weight aloft to a minimum, and make the rig very easy to handle.
Production hulls will be built in GRP and finished with solid harwood gunwales and trim.
CNC cut plywood kits are currently being developed for home-builders.
Both methods of construction result in a relatively lightweight, durable boats that can be towed by a small car and are light enough to launch & recover on a slipway singlehanded.
